Somewhat surprisingly P&O Nedlloyd will partner Contship Italia (Eurokai/Eurogate) as the new majority owners of Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT) at Sardinia (DL 09/03). Contship Italia amongst others acquired the 35% stake until recently held by P&O Ports in CICT, almost idle since it inauguration mid-2000. The Anglo-Dutch carrier obviously hopes to lure the Grand Alliance (Hapag-Lloyd, MISC, NYK, OOCL, P&O Nedlloyd) to Cagliari. This grouping is since one year using 90% Contship Italia owned Medcentre at Gioia Tauro as its Mediterranean hub, after having patronized Malta for quite a period.
