P&O Nedlloyd Latest News

In this year's first quarter, the total full TEU liftings of P&O Nedlloyd Container Line were up 11% as compared to the first three months of 2002. More importantly, average revenue per TEU was also higher: more than 4% (and 3% over the last quarter of last year). Although the net result improved by almost 18% (against 1/2002) it still is a considerable loss of USD 69 mn, as yet a bit spoiling the positive trend. With falling bunker prices, persevering volume growth (subject SARS) in most major trade lanes and rate increases both achieved and in the pipeline, all starting to come into effect in the 2nd quarter, the Anglo-Dutch carrier feels quite positive about the next three months period. Potential bidders for the fresh privatisation round of SCI, the Shipping Corporation of India must express their interest before 6 June. Restrictions on non-Indian companies to take the 51% ownership have been lifted.
